Sequoia Maner is a poet and PhD candidate in English at UT Austin where she teaches classes in African American literature and performance. Her dissertation is titled "Liberation Aesthetics in the #BlackLivesMatter Era" and she is at work on her first book of poetry.
Sheree Renée Thomas, a native of Memphis, is the author of Sleeping Under the Tree of Life (Aqueduct Press), Shotgun Lullabies, and the editor of the World Fantasy Award-winning Dark Matter anthologies. She served as the Guest Editor of a special double-issue of Obsidian, “Speculating Futures: Black Imagination & the Arts” (February 2017) She was the Lucille Geier-Lakes Writer in Residence at Smith College and has been honored with fellowships and residencies from Cave Canem, Millay, The Wallace Foundation, VCCA, Ledig House/Writers Omi, Blue Mountain, the New York Foundation of the Arts, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
